Machine translation and voice processing
Introductory Note
Machine translation software is an important part of language technology, both for specialists interested in acquiring a translation tool to assist them in the workplace, as well as for members of the public who would like to receive information about available programs. Software for automatic translation, which provides quick translation from one language to another, and translation memories, more specialized tools for the particular type and vocabulary of the text to be translated, form one part of machine translation. In this thematic unit, one may view a brief presentation of these tools and their possibilities for the language pairs English <-> Greek and French <-> Greek.
Another part of language technology with a possible application to the teaching of language is text-to-speech software, as well as tools that carry out the opposite procedure, text production from human speech (speech recognition software). Products related to Modern Greek are described in this thematic unit.
