Modern Greek Translations of the Anthology of Ancient Greek prose texts

Introductory Note

Multiple Modern Greek Translations accompany each text in the Anthology. Some of these are contemporary, written in demotic, while others were composed at the beginning or in the middle of the last century, in katharevousa or an archaizing language.

Neither their quality nor the possibility of their functioning astranslation exemplars served as the criterion for selection of these translations. They are rather provided for the comparative study of the vocabulary and structure of the Ancient and Modern Greek languages. Such study may have many teaching applications: the search for syntactic and vocabulary similarities and differences between the two languages; comparison among the various means of approaching a text; Modern Greek renderings of Ancient Greek thought, and so forth.
